• Make complete inventory of goods being stored. A photo or videotaped record of your stored goods is also helpful.

• Keep ALL records in a safe place away from your storage space.

• Number boxes and keep a separate list of items stored in each box.

• If possible, store boxes and furniture on wooden pallets or on boards placed on the floor of the storage space.

• Cover all items with blankets to prevent dust buildup  and extra cleaning later

• Store your small, expensive items such as TVs, camcorders, computers, and VCR/DVD players in the back of the storage space. Store furniture beds and other large items in front.

• Wrap glass and breakable items in plastic bubble wrap and cover them with linens for additional protection.

• Avoid leaning stored property against the wall of the storage space.
• Renting a storage unit is just like renting an apartment. You are responsible for insurance for the contents of your unit—for what you believe the value of your property to be worth. Homeowners insurance often has a rider’s policy to insure your property at a storage facility—often without additional cost—if you let your insurance company know ahead of time.

• Or you can purchase storage insurance by calling the company not affiliated with GLMS.
